Bruker demonstration day

Held on 29th & 30th March 2011 at Daresbury Laboratory

On the 29th and 30th of March, I-TAC hosted a two day workshop where participants were given demonstrations of Bruker equipment and the opportunity to learn about the company and various X-Ray techniques. The morning provided an interesting overview of Bruker as an organisation, highlighting the section of the company that focuses on X-Rays, one part of a range of areas the company works in.

The afternoon gave everyone a chance to see the equipment first hand and gain an insight into real life applications. On the day participants were given a chance to really get involved as Bruker used different real life samples brought in by the participants themselves to demonstrate the techniques that can be used.

The first piece of equipment showcased was the D2 Bench Top X-Ray Diffractometer, followed by the S2 Picofox Total Reflection XRF. A portable handheld XRF instrument was also introduced which can detect different types of metal, for example it can determine the purity of gold. The M1 Mistral Bench Top XRF, which can process real world samples, for example differentiating between metal types in archaeology, was also demonstrated.

The event was a great success: it proved to be a valuable experience for customers and for Bruker themselves who are looking to work with I-TAC on more workshops like this in the future.
